As business owners we always look for ways to differentiate ourselves from the competition. Ways to stand out and get our voices heard. As a business coach I spend a lot of time working with clients on their unique value proposition and creating a voice around what makes them unique.
One of my biggest passions as well as greatest convictions is that each and every one of us is on this earth for a specific purpose. I know it seems a bit strange to bring this idea into the realm of business but hear me out. When it comes to answering the big question of why should I do business with you, I believe this is our answer.
Each of us has a unique life experience, voice, point of view, passion, and so on
When working with clients I love to bring those things into their business.
Why? Because that the one thing that makes your business unique. YOU! That’s what makes the competition disappear. No matter how common your business is, if you put YOU into it and your unique voice and personality, that business is transformed into a one and only.
I’ve done this exercise for my clients as well as myself. In a sea of business coaches how do I stand out from the crowd?
I thought about all the things that make me unique as well as things that I love. So I have 10 years of experience in branding, marketing and sales, so that gives me a unique positioning as a business coach because my experience gives me a unique insight. When I was branding myself I decided to lead with becoming the go to expert in sales from a branding and marketing perspective.
This is significant because I focus heavily on value communication and being true to you in the sales conversation. Rather than forcing you into a script or a process that isn’t in alignment with who you are as a person and entrepreneur I look at things from a communications perspective that gives you flexibility to clearly, concisely, and eloquently communicate your value within the framework of a heart centered sales conversations that gets Yes’s. Many coaches can teach sales, but nobody can teach it like I can.
Here is one of the exercises that I walk clients through to get this going
I get them to make a list of things that they are very passionate about. Things that get them up excited in the morning and bring out their vibrancy. I like the number 10; it’s a nice round number. So go ahead make a list of 10 things that get you pumped.
A few of mine are: Listening, communicating, encouragement, Internet, online marketing, funnels, advertising, business, cooking, my family, freedom, and money.
Go ahead, make your list. I’ll be waiting. 🙂

So now look through that list and see how you can bring that into your business.
For example, I love communications. Few things in this world inspire me like sharing my heart and excitement about something. So how do I as a business coach and entrepreneur bring communications into my business? I chose to allow my strength in communications and connecting with people is the filter through which I teach sales. I took my sales passion and gift and put it together with my experience in communications through branding and marketing and BAM, that’s ME! There is no competition to me.
Communications, listening, encouraging, really hearing my clients and people is so intrinsic to who I am as a person and entrepreneur. It’s what I LOVE to do and it’s such a big part of my life and it’s definitely a big part of my “voice”.
Now I challenge you to take the list that you have made and make your business’s voice unique to you.
Whether it’s incorporating some hip-hop into your marketing video or a life story into your e-book, be true to who you are. This is just one small exercise in making your business niche to you.
You are the unique value proposition in your business.
This will help you build trust and likeability. People do business with people they trust and like. And just like that all of your competition is gone! Now go tell the world what’s so special about you. I’d love to be the first to know! 🙂
